...From the Caribbean to the North-West

Isabelle Pennington Edmead isn’t just a label—it’s a personal, purpose-driven brand rooted in sustainability, size inclusivity, and slow fashion. Every made-to-order piece reflects Isabelle’s creative journey and commitment to ethical design, shaped by her time with The Prince’s Foundation.
Drawing on her Caribbean-English heritage and rural upbringing, Isabelle’s designs are nostalgic, feminine, and rich in story—woven with inspiration from art, family, and memory.
We had the honour of Interviewing founder Isabelle following her capsule collection launch on online British clothing retailer ASOS.

Tell us a little bit about your background and the brand...
I: I’m a British-Caribbean designer with a background in textile design and a passion for sustainability. I started my namesake brand to create bold, expressive womenswear that blends my Caribbean heritage with British craftsmanship. Every piece is made with care in the North West of England, using ethical practices and hand drawn / painted prints.
Favourite collection of yours so far?
I: My favourite has to be S1 Windrush. It was a real turning point creatively, it fused structured tailoring with more fluid, playful silhouettes. I think it captured the spirit of the brand perfectly: strong, expressive, but with an undercurrent of softness. It also connected really well with people, which is always the most rewarding part.

Who’s in mind when you’re designing?
I: I design for fashion-forward women who aren’t afraid to express themselves, but also care deeply about how their clothes are made. She’s intentional, informed, and curious. She wants something that stands out visually, but also aligns with her values. There’s empowerment in knowing the story behind what you wear, and I try to give her that.

What are some difficulties you face as a designer with sustainability at the forefront of your brand?
I: One of the biggest challenges is navigating tariffs and the cost of exporting while keeping everything made here in the UK. Manufacturing locally is a huge part of the brand’s ethos, but it does come with logistical and financial hurdles—especially when you’re still growing and getting to grips with the ins and outs of international trade. It’s a learning curve, but a worthwhile one.
Best advice to aspiring designers across Merseyside?
I: Be bold in your vision, but stay rooted in your values. Don’t wait for permission, start where you are, with what you have. The creative community here is rich and supportive, so tap into that. And remember: authenticity always cuts through. If your designs reflect who you truly are, they’ll find the right audience.
