LILY TATLOCK IS REIMAGINING GIRLHOOD THROUGH GARMENTS

ree

Lily Tatlock, a class of 2025 graduate from Liverpool John Moores, created her final collection,

Echoes of Girlhood, and it hits like a teenage diary ripped open. It’s lace + frills smashed against ripped tights, daydream dresses dirtied up with edge. Nostalgia, romance, and a little bit of chaos stitched into every seam.

This isn’t costume-y Victorian cosplay. It’s 19th-century aesthetics filtered through collages of teenage-house, Sofia Coppola films, Riot Grrrl playlists, and bedroom mirror selfies. Floaty dresses with a side of angst. Soft but jagged. Pretty but never quiet.

Echoes of Girlhood is a love letter to girlhood friendships... messy, intense, unbreakable, sometimes destructive. The ones that shaped you, saved you, made you. They aren't just outfits, they’re confessions, they’re inside jokes, they’re bruises and lipstick stains.

"For me, design is about storytelling. With Echoes of Girlhood, I wanted to capture that magical feeling of innocence and curiosity, while also blending nostalgic memories with a modern edge. Each piece celebrates self-expression and the freedom to explore identity through what we wear. A central influence was the idea of timeless female friendships, those deep connections that support, shape, and empower us. This collection is a tribute to those bonds: honest, beautiful, and enduring."

But behind the dreamy chaos is craft. Lily has developed the technical skills; garment construction, fabric knowledge, pattern cutting. Sharpened by her time shadowing Matalan’s design and garment tech teams. But what sets her apart is that she’s not scared to make fashion feel personal, imperfect, alive.

"I am now eager to bring my creativity and technical skills into the North West fashion industry."
